Panel Discussion: The global impact of COVID-19 on the resources sector
Professor Harmony Musiyarira holds a PhD in Engineering Degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, a Masters’ Degree in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management and an Honours Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, both from the University of Zimbabwe. Prof Harmony Musiyarira is the former Head of Department of Mining and Process Engineering at the Namibia University of Science and Technology, Namibia. He previously managed at a Refractory High-Temperature materials, Earthenware and Sanitaryware ceramic production plants for a formerly Anglo-American Corporation.
Prof Musiyarira has satisfactorily executed multimillion-dollar consultancy services nationally and internationally. Recently, he was the project leader in the development of the Mineral Beneficiation Strategy for Namibia and he was also instrumental in the development of the Namibian Sector Growth Strategy for Coloured Gemstones. Moreover, he was a member of the project team for the Intergovernmental Forum (IGF) on Mining, Metals, Minerals and Sustainable Development that carried out the Mineral Policy Framework Assessment building for Namibia. He has also worked on projects in Namibia and Ethiopia under the Canadian International Resource Agency (CIRDI). On the academic front, he is a PhD external examiner for the University of Johannesburg and the University of the Witwatersrand. Prof Harmony Musiyarira is the conference chairperson for the Sustainable Development in the Minerals Industry (SDIMI) conference to be held in Namibia in mid-July 2022. He is also the President-Elect for the Society of Mining Professors (SOMP). His teaching and research interests are in the areas of Minerals Processing, Mine and Process Waste Treatment and Management, Small Scale Mining, and Cleaner Production application in the minerals industry.
