Cecile Thaxter was appointed Vice President, Health, Safety & Environment for Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore business in February 2020.
In this role, Cecile provides leadership to the Health, Safety, Environment and security organisation, ensuring alignment with corporate strategies and shared best practices across all sites and regions, as well as building innovation, expertise and capability within the function.
Cecile is also a member of the Iron Ore Senior Leadership Committee.
Cecile has significant senior leadership experience from her previous roles at Newmont’s Australian and American operations, and serving the industrial and mining sectors as an investment banker in New York and Tokyo.
Cecile holds a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics and Computer Science) from the University of West Indies and Master of Business Administration (Finance and Accounting) from Columbia University.
